The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) Board of Directors announced that David Israelite will continue his role as the organization’s President and CEO through 2018. Israelite has served as President and CEO of NMPA since 2005 and will proceed to oversee all operations, from the organization’s legal strategy to its implementation of government affairs and advocacy.
Last Thursday, NMPA held its annual meeting and board member election process.
The re-election comes amidst heightened awareness of publisher payouts, and contentious public battles involving Pandora. Israelite has led a fairly successful campaign to boost awareness of paltry songwriter payouts on Capitol Hill and the media, no small feat considering the general obscurity of ‘publishing’ to the outside observer (and lawmaker).
Separately, entities like Sony/ATV are striking direct, one-off deals with groups like Pandora, a shift that has already raised the average payout on publishing catalogs.
