The Following Is an Anti-Piracy Public Service Announcement from Eminem…

It’s hard to tell if this is (a) a joke, (b) serious, or (c) some combination thereof.  But we do know that Eminem’s label and team took measures to suppress a leak of his latest album (The Marshall Mathers LP 2, released this week), and even made Rap Genius remove the lyrics to its songs.

I applaud him for this very good attempt. This announcement is supposedly directed solely at fans of his music, as per the style of this message. I think also it was an attempt to not appear hypocritical when he admits to doing the same as a kid. I sympathize and relate with his lack of temperament for touring thereby relying more on record sales for livelihood… Not everyone is cut out for touring.

2013, the year musicians stepped from out of the shadows and told the truth about the digital economy. T Bone Burnett, Trent Reznor, Thom Yorke, David Byrne, Lou Reed, East Bay Ray, Jerry Cantrell, Quincy Jones, Aimee Mann, Blake Morgan, Zoe Keating, Amanda Palmer, Shawn Dover, Guy Marchais and others.

Last year we had john Mellencamp and over the past couple of years our articulate, fearless spokesperson, David Lowery.
