The U.K. based Mixcloud is expanding their efforts to the U.S., opening an office in New York City.
Mixcloud is similar to Soundcloud, but is focused on hosting podcasts, radio shows, and DJ sets rather than individual tracks. The platform is available on web, iOS, and Android. They also offer a variety of plugins for Facebook, Traktor, Serato, and more.
The service is a little clunky right now, but is growing into a great tool for DJs and radio presenters. The company says they have around 10 million listeners per month. They focus on audience engagement over racking in the most page views. The average user spends 28 minutes on Mixcloud.
Mixcloud already has established partnerships with Diplo, Ultra Music Festival, Insomniac Entertainment, and others. They have announced some new U.S. partnerships as well with Vice, Dream Hotels, and Internet Week New York. These brands plan on using Mixcloud to “engage with millenials”.
Other brands use Mixcloud to run competitions, mainly in the U.K. Drake is currently using the platform to find DJs to open his U.K. tour. Ibiza Rocks is using Mixcloud to find a new DJ to play their festival.
Mixcloud hopes to expand in New York by growing brand partnership and content outreach teams.
