Cassette Store Day Is Here!

Earlier this year I wrote about Cassette Store Day, the cassette lover’s version of Record Store Day.  Tomorrow (September 27th) is the day; Cassette Store Day will take place at participating U.S. and U.K. stores.

Last year’s Cassette Store Day took place in the U.K. The event surpassed organizer’s expectations, leading to a U.S. expansion. Los Angeles label Burger Records is the official U.S. ambassador of the event.

“Burger Records loves tapes! We’ve built our foundation on the forgotten format and have been preaching the merits of warm analog cassette culture for years. We’re honored to be ambassadors of Cassette Store Day 2014 in the good ol USA! We plan to bring some of our favorite labels to the table and invite everyone to the party and partake in the fun phenomena of releasing top shelf music on cassette tapes in pop culture today!”

Vivian Girls, Dntl, They Might Be Giants, and The Gaslight Anthem are a few of the artists putting out Cassette Store Day releases.

What is a cassette? Kidding. Is there also 8-track day? Minidisc? Phonograph cylinder? Music roll? Wire recording? DAT? Reel-to-reel?

Anything that sells music product is good. Still, this is beyond silly. Cassettes suck.
