Deezer has acquired U.S.-based podcast and talk radio app Stitcher.

Stitcher will continue to operate as an independent app on iOS and Android (for now). Deezer says moving into talk radio allows them to become “a truly global on-demand audio provider“. Deezer’s CEO Tyler Goldman told TechCrunch that Deezer has been working on integrating talk radio into their service for some time, and that acquiring Stitcher will help speed things up.

Stitcher has over 35,000 shows from 40 countries on their platform, and has been downloaded by 13 million people. They are currently available in 50 car models, and Deezer says they will be expanding this number. Deezer hopes to expand their own service to more car models by offering an “all-in-one” package.

Deezer has 16 million users in 180 countries, but is currently only available in the U.S. via Bose and Sonos.
