Live music is now, arguably, the most important sector of the evolving music. And festivals are now, arguably, the most important part of live music. So it makes sense that conferences are springing up to address the special business niche surrounding the extremely lucrative festival economy.
Insomniac has been aggressively ramping up EDMbiz in Vegas, with executives talking electronica festival business before EDC kicks off. Now, there’s another player: FestForward, a three-day conference in Santa Barbara dedicated exclusively to festivals. FestForward is just getting started, so it’s nowhere near mega-events like SXSW or Canadian Music Week, but early takers include sponsors like Lagunitas Brewing Company, Eventbrite, Sched, SeatGeek, Ryde, bluemedia, BackStage Networks, Delta, OTW Safety, Ticketfly (now part of Pandora), and FireChat (a company trying to tackle in-festival connectivity problems).
There’s also a lot of wine, beer, film, and poetry kicking around, with the laid-back action getting started over the weekend. FestForward, held at the Fess Parker right off the Santa Barbara surf, continues until Tuesday morning (tickets here).
DMN will be there, so hit us up at firstname.lastname@example.org!
