According to multiple reports, Coachella will now offer free AIDS testing at its upcoming festivals.
Coachella Music and Arts Festival has actively taken steps to bring HIV/AIDS awareness to its attendees by joining forces with Get Tested Coachella Valley.
Get Tested is an organization run by Desert AIDS Project, with the goal of increasing HIV testing and awareness in California. During the two-weekend event, festival goers will be given the chance to get tested in a bid to prevent the disease spreading.
According to Get Tested, ”the rate of HIV in the Coachella Valley is twice the national rate”, and it is also estimated that ”1 in 8 people who are HIV positive do not know their status”. These figures really highlight the current epidemic.
The test consists of a quick swab in the mouth, and 20 minutes later results are ready. It’s a quick-and-simple method that can help prevent the disease spreading. It’s also a great way to for attendees to put their minds at rest, or alternatively a way of killing time between artist sets.
