The individual in this position directs licensing negotiations and account services for the Digital Licensing group to include: planning and implementing multi-year strategies, representing the BMI repertoire and copyright clearance services including overseeing technology development, implementation and maintenance, and leading and directing the work of others.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
-Lead broad sales and client relationship management for new and existing licensees served by the Digital Licensing group, spanning multiple categories.
-Develop relationships with new and emerging digital businesses as well as maintaining BMI’s relationship with the existing licensing base of digital properties.
-Track new markets and emerging trends in digital entertainment and work with the Vice President, Digital Licensing on – strategic planning to maximize BMI’s position in licensing digital markets.
-Act as a resource both internally and externally to answer general questions about the digital music copyright world along with specific questions about BMI and how we fit.
-Meet revenue and operational goals set by management each fiscal year.
-Generate incremental digital licensing revenues by establishing new licensing agreements and assisting in creating new licensing categories.
-Oversee management of client maintenance including billings, financial reporting, music use reporting and contract administration.
-Oversee the future development and maintenance of BMI’s online licensing tools for prospective and current licensees and propose enhancements and improvements to help make services and processes more effective.
-Lead and direct the work of others ensuring appropriate oversight of the prospect database and sales outreach process, including assessment of results and management reporting. In addition, ensure the team is effective in retaining smaller billing digital businesses.
-Serve as the point person for interfacing with other BMI departments such as accounting, collections, Operations (music use reporting) and others to ensure that all “shared service” departments have the information and expertise they need to process and disburse royalty receipts from the Digital Licensing group.
-Represent company at industry events.
-Other duties as assigned.
-Directly supervises departmental employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
-Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
-Minimum ten years’ experience in digital entertainment in either a rights management or digital services environment, music publishing related roles preferred. Thorough understanding of digital entertainment business models and leading companies. –Proven record of outside sales success in digital space. At least five years’ managing staff. At least fifteen years’ overall business experience.
-Proven track record in building new business relationships
-Demonstrated ability to close new business and generate incremental revenues within the parameters of BMI’s existing form licenses
-In depth knowledge of the digital rights marketplace
-Network of contacts in the digital media
-Proven ability to manage projects to successful completion
-Proven ability to manage existing business and maximize revenues from current account base
-Ability to analyze client data reports to determine trends and their potential financial impact on inherent business
-Ability to lead a team and inspire them to provide superlative customer service
-Ability to successfully manage internal relationships within the company to ensure that proper administration, billings, music use reporting and account maintenance are performed by the proper shared service departments
-Excellent communication and presentation skills
-Knowledge of accounting and licensing systems
