This Is How Coldplay's 'Mylo Xyloto' Finished the Year...

Saturday, December 31, 2011
by  paul

As 2012 sets sail, this is the story Spotify must contend with. Coldplay was the most visible band to bail on Spotify in 2011, and after six months, Mylo Xylotoremains unavailable on the service.  Overall, Mylo Xyloto has sold 961,942 units in the US, or nearly platinum.

These figures are US-specific and cumulative, as counted by Nielsen Soundscan and shared with Digital Music News for the week ending December 26th. 'Paid Downloads' mostly happened on iTunes and Amazon MP3.

    2012 note for CEOs Sunday, January 01, 2012

    Memo to labels: Brian Eno's productions sell.

    Unfortunately Sunday, January 01, 2012

    However, his latest solo records do not...

    Visitor Monday, January 02, 2012

    Both correct. But those early solo albums are masterpieces, and artistically far more interesting than this Coldplay album.

    2012 note for CEOS Monday, January 02, 2012

    Yes, unfortunately we live in a fucked up world where the so called "fans" of Coldplay have no idea who Brian Eno is and will have to Google his name just to figure things out.

    The numbers in the pie graph don't add up. :)

    paul Sunday, January 01, 2012

    Make sure to add the small vinyl number at the bottom.

    Yves Villeneuve Sunday, January 01, 2012

    CD percentage figure is not correct. :)

    Brian Eno Sunday, January 01, 2012

    Get a life.

    Yves Villeneuve Monday, January 02, 2012

    Who is Brian Eno?

    Yves Villeneuve Monday, January 02, 2012

    You are taking to long to respond.

    Not to forget to mention I am better looking than you are, what Brian Eno sells in 6 months for this Coldplay album, I sell this amount weekly per Yves Villeneuve album as of year-end 2011.

    Brian Eno Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    I beg to differ on both accounts. Best of luck.

    paul Monday, January 02, 2012

    Let me update that.

    Yves Villeneuve Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    I am usually a somewhat nice guy, but I've got to regrettably inform you that your head is deeply implanted in the sand. Best of luck to you as well. :)

    Brian Eno Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    My head is deeply implanted in the sand? This Coldplay record hasn't even been out for 3 months, and it's a hair under platinum. Unless I'm not grasping your logic here, you're telling me you sell 1,000,000 copies of your record per week in addition to being better looking than I am. While the latter I could care less about, I find it punishingly hilarious that you're saying you are selling that many records if this is you.

    Yves Villeneuve Wednesday, January 04, 2012

    "I find it punishingly hilarious ..."

    These head in the sand comments is why I respond.

    Congratulations to you and Coldplay on Paridise, UK #1 song this week.

    I hope my comment of me being better looking than you was taken in jest.

    @BenjiKRogers Sunday, January 01, 2012

    ya! That's what happens when people buy music.

    NathanJE Monday, January 02, 2012

    What Coldplay proves about Spotify?

    There's no reason to be part of the future at least until you're getting part of the profits.

    Smoke Screen Monday, January 02, 2012

    Spotify is just another Wall Street bubble. People have access to basic education all over the western world, yet they somehow have forgotten how to do basic calculations. Like adding two numbers together...!

    Alex Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    3 million units - last Coldplay album sales in the U

    < 1 million - current Coldplay album tally

    Just sayin...

    @d2k Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    Coldplay shows it's still possible to go (almost) Platinum, even when you thumb your nose at Spotify.

    @Alison_Lamb Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    Pretty small sales for Coldplay.

    @mattepowers Tuesday, January 03, 2012

    Ya! That's what happens when people buy stuff.
