What Else? TPB, China, Amanda Palmer, Kickstarter, Rdio, Live Nation, Barcelona, Jack White, Tunecore+Topspin...

The Pirate Bay is getting shut out of the UK... or is it?  Blanket ISP blocks seem lethal, except that workarounds are already in motion.  And, there's all the free publicity: in the moments after the UK High Court ordered the blocks, TPB received a surge of traffic.

China is now the largest smartphone market, according to first quarter research released by Canalys.  China just grabbed 22 percent of the latest shipment totals, compared to a second-place 16 percent figure for the US.  And of course, Apple is now exploiting this market in more ways than one...

It's been quite the energizing week for Amanda Palmer, Kickstarter, and the entire crowdfunding market.  Palmer has easily pushed past $400,000 on a recent Kickstarter campaign for an upcoming album, art book and tour.  That breaks a number of Kickstarter records, and Palmer is now craftily figuring out ways to push past the $10,000 funding limit.

Rdio has just expanded in the UK and France.

A kick for Songkick?  Live Nation has just launched Concert Calendar, a Facebook app that pulls ticket listings from Ticketmaster and dozens of other ticketing providers, and builds recommendations based on Likes and listening habits on apps like Spotify.  But wait: is any of this driving more concert attendance?

The next Music Hackday is happening in Barcelona on June 14th and 15th (more here).

Jack White scored a nice number one on the album charts this week.  Blunderbluss shifted more than 137,000 copies, according to stats from Nielsen Soundscan (and it's a pretty good album...)

btw... have you tried the Spotify iPad app yet?  We've been playing around on an iPad 2 version, sans-retina excellence but hey.  And, no apps on this app, perhaps a disappointment but functionality, playlists, and usability seem great.

Tunecore is now joining forces with Topspin, a tie-up that will feature cross-deals and promotions between the platforms, as well as the ability to automatically transfer materials across services.

The Topspin+Tunecore partnership is a no brainer. Congrats to both.
