The backdrop on all this is a hyper-growing Twitter platform, one that keeps drawing new people (and their unexpected tweets). But according to stats just released by Pew Internet, the number of Twitter users has remained fairly steady over the past year. Roughly 15 percent of online adults use the platform, a slight year-over-year increase, though the volume of per-account tweeting has surged.
Elsewhere, digital music formats now account for 55.5 percent of recording industry revenue in the UK, according to first-quarter figures from trade group BPI.
Apple may have just purchased Italian music software maker Redmatica, according to rumors. TechCrunch points to a low-revenue, tiny shop, which suggests a talent-acquisition play.
