It was in development and nearing completion when MegaUpload was raided. In fact, some theorize it was a driving motivation for the raids in the first place. Which might be why Kim Dotcom is still planning to launch the idea, and breathe life into a model that would pay artists 90 percent of all download earnings. And, actually compensate artists on free downloads.

We're not sure of the 'when' or 'how,' but Dotcom just told Torrentfreak that this is definitely in the works. And, he's telling the world that MegaUpload is plotting a comeback - and wants revenge. That includes targets like Universal Music Group and the RIAA, both of whom were overjoyed when MegaUpload took a fall. In fact, UMG went on the offensive after learning of a flashy artist sponsorship campaign that involved big-label stars like will.i.am, Kanye West, and Game (just to name a few).
Here's a screenshot of the beta MegaBox, taken one month before the FBI raids.

Meanwhile, Dotcom's legal team is fighting ferociously against the massive weight of a US Government lawsuit, while pushing to expose what Dotcom believes is a top-level conspiracy orchestrated by Hollywood and the 'highest levels' of government.

90 percent is certainly a generous ratio, but 90 percent of what? An occasional banner ad that hardly anyone clicks on? You've got to generate insane revenue to make this work.
Still, if he can figure out a way to generate decent revenue and get payouts to close to ~$0.01 per free stream, I'd support it. That won't be easy, but this guy seems driven more by revenge than profit at this point. That's a powerful motivator.

Whoa.

Don't you get it!?
This wasn't on the APPROVED LIST of major label partners. It means they weren't getting a big fat juicy cut and millions of upfront millions because Kim Dotcom didn't play that. It means that top executives at the Major Labels weren't getting a PERCENTAGE and all the other bullshizat that Spotify agreed to.
Kim Dotcom didn't sell his first born. So he got raped and pillaged.
AND ARTISTS LOST OUT.

a percentage ? like artists ? this is unacceptable !! call the CIA again !!

Life is like a pack of running dogs--Are you gonna stay in the back and sniff Farts all day,or get up front an Bark, and raise total Hell?

you're thinking is in legion with a lot of awesome dudes residing behind bars, where they sniff a lot more than what you mentioned ... How about life is made up of a pack of running dogs and those who aren't in a pack of running dogs, including some with long range rifles taking out packs of running dogs before they create too much of a nuisance.

Uh, are you kidding me? If you are going with a single word Schmitz AKA Dotcom says, I've got a bridge to sell you. Everyone knows this guy's track record. He's out for himself, every time, and you're daft if you believe he's out to do anything so noble as unchain/benefit artists. C'mon, give your heads a shake. Look at this guy's history and how he runs his "projects", and join the rest of us in reality.

amen. the kool-aid wears off eventually, with a whale of a hangover and lost wallet and car keys.

The elephant in the room (and not Dotcom himself) is that for any artist signed to any kind of record deal it would be a breach of contract to license any kind of sales tranactions to any kind of company/entity that is not expressly sanctioned by the record company.
So what is he really playing at?
I wouldn't touch him with a 5 kilometre long bargepole....

There's no way in hell I'd do any type of business with this guy. A shady track record with no signs of slowing down...

The Pirate Party casually "forgot" to mention that his real name is Kim Schmitz and, as the European hacker community very well knows, he made a deal for his inside-trading scam jail term in exchange for worki as an undercover snitch for the German police. Lots of people ended up behind bars. Anti-nuclear activists in Germany and France, among others.
So, go on, suckers, make good company with Kim Schmitz and we will see how it works out for you...
