A Moscow appeals court has unexpectedly freed one of the members of Pussy Riot, though the other two members had their two-year jail sentences upheld. Yekaterina Samutsevich's sentence was suspended because she was reportedly thrown out of the cathedral before she could start playing her guitar. "The punishment for an incomplete crime is much lighter than for a completed one," said Samutsevich's lawyer.
The Future of Music Coalition (FMC), a nonprofit education, research, and advocacy organization for musicians, will be holding its Future of Music Summit on November 13th, 2012 at the New America Foundation in Washington, DC. Clio Music, a company that develops musical analysis and search tools, has just linked with synch-licensor Rumblefish. The collaboration gives Rumblefish access to tools that analyze music metadata, melodic complexity or performance energy, for instance, and applies those breakdowns to make searches more successful.

Mumford & Sons' Babel topped the album sales rankings again this week in the US, thanks to a second-week tally of 168,909. Muse's 2nd Law came in second, with 101,927 units sold, followed by Miguel's Kaleidoscope Dream (70,872), P!nk's Truth About Love (51,604), and Three Days Grace's Transit of Venus (48,326), according to Nielsen Soundscan.
Ticketmaster is the focus of a freshly-filed class action lawsuit in federal court. Lead plaintiff Brendon Holub alleges that Ticketmaster owner Live Nation is exploiting cozy venue contracts to exact huge ticketing markups, while also pointing to dominant and abusive marketshare levels.
