We dont have pandora in Canada (for the simple reason our "rates" for streaming radio are too high for them to bother)
so I personally havent used it myself..
BUT, from what I have been able to gleen (Freakonomics did a great episode about it), it is a very promising idea!
Personnally I hope it makes it.. cause it is potentially a huge upgrade in promotion for all artists.. (potentially better then any thing currently existing and a lot more fairer).. (not $$ wise maybe but 'promotional wise')
Are the rates fair? I dont know, I am of the opinion that reg. radio is also unfair to the artists.. and yet it seems artists are hating on Pandora but are saying little about terrestrial radio or youtube? (which in my opinion is just as unfair but in a more convoluted 'hidden' way)
What the artists SHOULD be fighting for is a transparent, fair, and level rate for ALL TYPES of "radio", whether its FM radio or Yahoo, Pandora... AND payouts that ACTUALLY reflect the number of times it was listened too..
The excuse that "plays" cant be tracked is not true anymore. so there is no reason why a "standard" cant be set for ALL OF THEM..
