I love that the editors of this site are always advocating on behalf of the creators of music. That's why I follow this site. However, I think advocating for the digital medium should also be a focus sometimes.
Pandora paid out how many millions in royalties to artists last year alone? If Pandora disappears, musicians do not benefit. They are currently losing money because the royalty rates for Internet radio are significantly higher than traditional radio. The ultimate question here is why should Internet radio be required to pay higher royalty rates than terrestrial and satellite radio to play the same songs? Internet radio is being discriminated against, plain and simple, and as a digital music news site, you guys should be all over this. Treat Internet the same as other mediums, that is the only fair thing to do. whether that involves raising royalty rates for satellite and terrestrial, or lowering rates for Internet radio, or meeting somewhere in the middle.
