I also think we shouldn't lump Pandora and Spotify together. I agree that the business model for Spotify is sketchy and they need to figure out a better way to compensate artists, but Pandora really is a very different business model. It exposes people to new music, but doesn't give them the option of hearing that music whenever they want. Listeners will then find a way to listen to that song whenever they want by (hopefully) buying the song or paying for a subscription service. Spotify is hard to swallow because it takes away sales and also pays poorly. Pandora may pay poorly, but it doesnt take away sales in the way that Spotify does. I may just be making an assumption based on how me and my friends/colleagues use Pandora, but it really seems like Pandora is simply an additional money generator for artists.
