Here's the thing. I'm a musician/sort of songwriter, too, and in a modern day where everyone and their mother is an artist and the bar is as low as possible, pure time and effort does not equal value. You can spend 4 years making a song. If it sucks, it sucks. Or you can spend 4 minutes making a song and if it's incredible, it's incredible. The simple act of creating art does not entitle anyone to money.
