Sitar legend Ravi Shankar has now passed away at 92 in San Diego.  Shankar gained worldwide popularity following his collaborations with George Harrison, though Western audiences never quite embraced the sitar and its vastly different musical underpinnings.   They did, however, roundly embrace Norah Jones, Shankar's estranged daughter from an earlier relationship.

Longtime RIAA thorn Jammie Thomas is apparently pushing for a Supreme Court challenge to her massive (and multi-year) $222,000 file-swapping fine.  The case, if heard, would draw massive attention from other media sectors like Hollywood.  More as this unfolds.

Disruptive entrant SeatGeek has just launched its iPhone app, one that neatly aggregates all sorts of ticketing sources around an event.  Take a look, it's pretty-looking.  The startup recently raised $1.65 milion.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its first-ever, fan-voted 2013 inductees. Celebrated artists Rush, Donna Summer, Heart, Public Enemy, Randy Newman, and Albert King will now be members of this elite society. You can catch the ceremony on HBO on May 18th.

WhoSampled is a site that explores the DNA of music, locating sampled bits of songs to the original track.  And if that sounds cool, now it gets cooler: the site is integrating with The Echo Nest's Rosetta Stone, effectively a database translator that opens all sorts of API tie-in possibilities.

And there's more holiday innovation.  BandLab is a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) project whose aim is to provide musicians access through cloud-based recording solutions, including collaboration around different multitrack elements.  It comes from a company called JamHub, and is currently courting Kickstarter love.

More innovations... The Royalty Exchange is an online marketplace for buying and selling royalties.  This is a big benefit for older artists who rely on smaller royalty checks, giving them the opportunity to receive advanced royalties, and allowing fans/investors to invest in a stable environment.  More at theroyaltyexchange.com.

The Game just announced that he's tapping Blazetrack.com to source fresh talent. This is a site that provides access to music professionals, and is now accepting submissions from aspiring songwriters, producers, and artists for The Game's new label, Rolex Records.  "If it's dope enough, it can be part of the family," Game partner Stat Quo announced, while Game joked that one sub-par submission was "a Timex".

Last but not least, several UK concert promoters are now bringing classical music into a club setting. Whereas traditional classical music concerts repel younger audiences due to stuffy ambiances and pricey tickets, the more accessible Yellow Lounge may help promote classical in a far friendlier setting.

Um, I think it should be rather obvious that this sentence is incorrect: "They did, however, roundly embrace Norah Jones, Sitar's estranged daughter from an earlier relationship."

A Sitar could never father a child. Everyone knows Sitar's are female. Thank you.

Norah Jones was immaculately conceived from a Sitar... how else do you explain such talent?

Wow, I didn't know about Norah Jones...

But what does the sitar think about per-stream rates for artists?

Artists on Spotify make Indian minimum wage, it seems okay to the Sitar.
