The jokes on you Thom Yorker one of the most influential artist in history when you make statements like that you’d better watch where you stand cause your knee deep in it. This guy is lucky enough to get a footnote in history nothing more nothing less.

Respect for very little talent, a foot note in history , what respected writer , musician would make such a ridiculous as Digital News , very high school.

Very little talent? Of all the bands that have come out in the last 60 years, Radiohead will most likely be one of the few artists people do hear about 100 years from now.

Thom needs to get guys like Bono and Borchetta possibly one or two more.
Then get some monetization input and request audience with label and RIAA boys!

Time to stop freeloading kindergarden and start digital music industry!

More fuel for my opinion that this publication has become a vanity project for Paul. I’ve been a subscriber for 8+ years and at one point read the Snapshot line by line. However, over the past few years, the articles have become filled by unbiased opinions that don’t explore both sides of an issue. Any counter-opinion is published as a “guest post.” And the actual stories are no longer printed–relegated to headlines. Furthermore, the headlines now feature news about the publication itself…like anybody gives a shit. My favorite was DMN’s battle with Grooveshark–day by day updates on the subpoena battle. No one cares. Get over yourself and get back to reporting news–hopefully in an insightful and exploratory way.

I don’t mean to throw stones but, as a long time subscriber, I would like to see the publication get back to its primary functions and strengths.

Hate to be blunt, but I didn’t set out to create Adam’s Music News — not back then, and not now. I can’t tell you the number of times someone screams to DMN, “this isn’t real journalism, this isn’t Digital Music NEWS!” What the person is actually saying is, “this isn’t exactly what I want to read, in the style and manner I want to read it, in the tone that I feel most comfortable with, or with an opinion that I totally agree with.”

You see, the definitions of ‘journalism’ and ‘news’ have always been shifting and subjective, and that was just as true in the late 19th century as it is in the early 21st.

Oh please! Virtually nothing published on this site in the last couple of years qualifies as journalism by any reasonable definition of the term, whether in the 19th or 21st century. Try actually writing something of substance again and doing some legitimate reporting of what’s happening in the digital music space (you did that in the distant past) and perhaps DMN might become relevant again. At this point it’s just another vanity blog filled with cut-and-paste content.

Right and agreed. Just rename it Paul’s music thoughts instead…

No.. what we are saying is NEWS shouldnt have an opinion, if it wants to be called NEWS.. Editorials are fine, as long as they are written as such.. Just because MSN and FOX have so called “NEWS Reports” that are thinly veiled propaganda machines, doesnt make it right..
Journalistic integrity is based on the principles of truth, accuracy and factual knowledge.
        in my opinion :-)

Love you guys, but you’re helping me to prove my point.

You see, ‘news’ is what media outlets determine is news: after all, massive and major events happen 24/7 around the globe, yet it is not equally covered (if at all). Why are entire genocides never reported, or lightly reported by some of the most important media outlets in the world, while some of the most trivial and unimportant celebrity b.s. is covered ad nauseam? It’s because some coffee-drinking editor has to decide that his massive paper, blog, site, TV or media outlet should cover it, and that there’s enough affinity and a compelling narrative to make the target audience interested.

And why is the New York Times still regarded by many as a paragon of great ‘journalism’ and ‘news’ despite acting in the most biased and reprehensible manner imaginable and possibly altering the trajectory of the United States for the worse (for decades to come)? And let’s not just pick on the New York Times, because there’s plenty of ‘bad’ to go around (though the Times is particularly reprehensible).

It’s because at some point, probably when you were young, you were taught this. This was ‘journalism,’ these are the outlets that created it, and that was that. It’s codified in your brain now, and you’ll always scream at anything that grates against that teaching, including DMN.
