A Beastie Boys superfan is leading an effort to name a street corner in Manhattan “Beastie Boys Square”.
The corner of Rivington and Ludlow Street on the Lower East Side is featured on the cover of Paul’s Boutique, Beastie Boys’ second album. LeRoy McCarthy wants the corner to be a permanent tribute to the rap group. He has put together an online petition and a Facebook page to rally support for his idea.
McCarthy is taking the idea to a community board in Manhattan this week for a vote. If the board approves, McCarthy’s measure then goes to the City Council.
