Shazam Is Now a Record Label…

vrkowzufruwlamiumjdb

Self-described “media engagement company” Shazam has just announced a partnership with Warner Music Group. This partnership includes a Shazam-branded WMG record label and collaboration on marketing efforts.

WMG will be using Shazam’s data to find rising unsigned acts to sign to the new Shazam-branded label.

Rob Wiesenthal Warner Music Group’s COO of Corporate, said:

“While data and crowd-sourced analyses will never be a substitute for the expertise and instincts of our A&R professionals, we do believe the information we obtain for this new label will provide very useful signals that will bolster our ability to find the stars of tomorrow.”

The relationship will flow the other way too, as WMG will use Shazam’s data to tailor marketing campaigns.  Shazam will feature exclusive content from some of these artists.  The two companies have already partnered on a Chromeo video, a Wiz Khalifa single, and Bruno Mars’ halftime show.

I love Shazaam as a digital company that does music right… but if WMG wants to track trending artists a subscription to NEXT BIG SOUND probably would have worked just as well, if not better as NBS shows activity probably BEFORE the threshold where Shazaam matters…

A record label behind? No way!

Shazam’s only logical assignment is to become the cash register of the industry!
You like it? Not on your playlist? Pay 39 cents to get ID and full ownership!

FREE ID equals FREE music – there is no other possibility in virtual reality.
We can stop it with change to “fair use doctrine” or killing current and new Shazams with river of CASH.
Second option much better to Shazam or Google Music Search or any lyrics ID entity.

So enjoy it and listen to sources that deliver to you such enjoyments.

If you like it so much that you want to enjoy it on demand in the future just ID it and pay the toll – it’s yours or will become part of your play list so you will never pay for it again. Just 39 cents tune.

Any other way equals FREE – no merchandise for sale and no industry.

I have “Shazamed” songs because I hated them so much that I wanted to know who the awful artist was so I could speak intelligently about the music I loathe as often as I’ve “Shazamed” songs because I liked them and wanted to know who the artist was so I could go and buy it.
