Frankie Knuckles, the “Godfather of House Music”, has passed away.

No cause of death has been reported, but various outlets report rumors of complications from Type II Diabetes. Frankie Knuckles’ friends DJ Deeon and Paul Johnson posted the news online.

I originally thought / hoped this was a hoax when the news broke April 1st at 12:00 am. Sadly, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

Frankie Knuckles used to spin at The Warehouse in Chicago, the club that gave birth to house music. He opened up The Power Plant in the 80s. During his career he worked with Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Chaka Khan, and more.

He had been cranking out mixes recently for the likes of XLR8R and The Fader. He was also in the middle of a run of tour dates in Europe and the U.S.

Great guy, great producer and fun to share the decks with. Did a few show’s in Chicago at the Smart Bar with Frankie. Even ran into him over in London at Fabric. God bless him and his leadership in the House Music World.
