Record Store Day is extremely valuable to the industry, but the holiday is now associated with finger pointing and angry independent labels.

Cassette Store Day seems to be taking proactive steps to make sure the day stays fun and beneficial for everyone evolved. It is extremely easy and inexpensive for any label or record store to take part.

September 27, 2014 marks the second annual Cassette Store Day. This year, the event has expanded from the U.K. to the U.S. California based label Burger Records is in charge of the U.S. side of things. Kissability and Suplex Cassettes will continue to run things in the U.K.

Jen Long of Kissability and BBC Radio 1 says:

“When planning this year we really tried to keep cassette labels and fans at the heart of the event. Last year grew far bigger than we had expected so we are thrilled to have Burger involved to help us cover the US side.”

Last year’s event included releases from The Flaming Lips, Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Haim, and many more.

Stores and labels can sign up between June 30th and August 15th at the Cassette Store Day website. The fee for labels is $10/£10.

Cassettes were a great media from a creative standpoint. Sure, they wore out and it was tough to skip to a certain song. They were; however, great for creative (opening and flipping the tape).
