Casey Kasem Dies at the Age of 82

Casey Kasem (1994)

Former radio personality Casey Kasem died on Father’s Day, June 15th, 2014. He was 82 years old.

Kasem is known for his American Top 40 radio program. He hosted the show for 39 years, before Ryan Seacrest took over. After that, Kasem hosted other syndicated radio countdown shows.

Kasem was also the voice of Shaggy on Scooby-Doo and Robin in various Batman cartoons, not to mention multiple characters in the original Transformers cartoon.

Casey had been extremely ill for some time, and had Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia. He was taken off the IVs providing him with food, water, and medicine.

His children had the IVs removed, after a court granted them the authority to act on his behalf. Casey did not want to be kept alive without cognitive function.

This marks the end of a recent battle between Casey’s children and his second wife Jean Thompson Kasem, who is known from her role on the television show Cheers.

Casey Kasem recently went missing, and was later found with Jean in Washington. Casey’s children said Jean was not allowing them to see their father and that she was not properly caring for him.

Officially the end of the old music era when people–icons like , Casey Kasem was actually trying to help grow the artist and the industry instead of passing off bad loans to Wall Street and getting filthy rich in the process. . .

Very sad. I used to listen to his show for so many years (when radio was still worth listening to). Rest in Peace.
