Google has created a documentary on Merge Records to celebrate the label’s 25th anniversary.
The 24 minute video is available on Google Play, and is also embedded below.
Merge is based in Durham, North Carolina. It was started by Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan of Superchunk as a way to release both their own music and their friends’ music.
Over the years, Merge has released iconic albums from The Magnetic Fields, Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire, and many more. Today, Merge is still putting out great records (like the new Wye Oak album I bought two days ago).
The documentary features Mac, Laura, and a number of Merge artists.
A collection of Merge songs are available for free download on Google Play.
Merge is also putting on the Merge 25 Festival at the end of July to celebrate their anniversary.
