SiriusXM and Rhapsody Subscribers Going BOOM…

Streaming subscription services continue to grow, but the business model behind many of these services is questionable at best. Pandora’s number of active users is up 7.5 percent from last year, but they lost $11,700,000 in the second quarter of 2014.

What about the competition? A couple subscription services have just released some key numbers.

Rhapsody International has announced that Rhapsody and Napster have over two million subscribers.

This number also includes unRadio subscribers. unRadio is Rhapsody and T-Mobile’s new radio streaming app.

The company says over 80 percent of their users’ listening is done on mobile devices.

Rhapsody’s subscribers are located across 32 countries. Rhapsody will take unRadio to France, under the name Napster Decouverte. Rhapsody and Telefonica recently launched the Napster Premiere service in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

Subscription satellite radio service SiriusXM has also announced that they’ve exceeded 26.3 million paying subscribers.

This is a five percent rise from last year.

The company reported $1.035 billion in revenue, up 10 percent from last year. Net income for the quarter was $120 million.

    Who is paying for this? Maybe the numbers include the free trial with new car purchases.

      I do my wife and my daughter too! They are actually one of the very normal members of music industry.
      This year they will have over 4 billion in revenues and should transfer over $700M in royalties to labels!
      They could double the revenues if we could convert them to digital music store.

    I really don’t find unradio impressive. I wouldn’t pay for it. And I say that as a long time Rhapsody subscriber. Their premade stations I have found to be rather cluttered with music that isn’t very relevant. Their custom stations are very limited in customization compared to Pandora or Slacker (both allow for hundreds of seeds.) And they don’t have any way of managing your bans/favorites.

    There is something impossible to countenance, about receiving a MediaNet statement o/b/o BEATS, iMesh J. River, Pulse, Locker Synacor US etc. etc. statement yesterday, for $.02, on work which until recently produced thousands of dollars per year in revenue, while Iovine & Dre sell BEATS to Apple for $3BB.

    Deal me out, I’m done. This is a scam.

      That is pathetic. But what does that have to do with Rhapsody or SiriusXM? They are separate entities.
