Executive Instability Continues at EMI, Wadsworth Exits

Executives continued to shuffle this week at EMI Music, a label in seemingly constant flux.  Since its acquisition by Terra Firma in August, a number of high-level changes have taken place, including the exit of EMI Group chief executive Eric Nicoli.  Now, UK & Ireland chairman and chief executive Tony Wadsworth is also taking a walk, according to information surfacing Thursday.  The departure ends a 26-year relationship with the company.

Wadsworth's responsibilities will be split among other high-ranking executives, and a direct replacement will not be named.  Discussing the departure, Terra Firma head Guy Hands pointed to an "ongoing restructuring of EMI Music," and most expect serious layoffs and continued turmoil ahead.  Wadsworth is credited with developing the careers of ultra-successful artists like Coldplay, Blur, Radiohead, Supergrass, Robbie Williams and Kylie Minogue.  Roger Ames, head of EMI Music in the United States, is expected to assume UK-based A&R responsibilities.
