Internet access providers have long resisted attempts to restrict or control their pipes, despite heavy pressure from content owners. Now, that pressure is getting greater, and at least one US-based ISP is sounding a cooperative tone.
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas this week, AT&T reiterated its willingness to discuss filtered flows. "What we are already doing to address piracy hasn’t been working," said James Cicconi, senior vice president, External & Legal Affairs for AT&T, in comments captured by New York Times reporter Brad Stone.
Comments like those represent progress for groups like the RIAA, as well as television and movie studios. But specifics on any plan remain elusive, and net neutrality advocates are undoubtedly watching the developments carefully.
