Shazam is synonymous with mobile music recognition, amazingly in almost any connected environment. But Shazam is now spinning its recognition technology into an innovative advertising tie-in with Dockers. After watching the 'Men Without Pants' spot, viewers will be asked to ID the Dockers commercial using the Shazam app. Once recognized, the device immediately shuttles to a dedicated page that features music, a pants giveaway, and plenty of branding.
Suddenly, television is given an interactive component, and a direct bridge into smartphones. Sounds novel, but when will anyone see this ad? The answer is the upcoming Super Bowl, the biggest springboard possible for the concept and a huge splash for Shazam. Super Bowl XLIV happens February 7th on CBS, the first time since 2002 for Dockers. After that, the concept will rotate across a variety of networks.
