Live Nation's freshly-launched ticketing service stumbled while attempting to handle the upcoming Phish tour, according to mounting customer complaints. The reuniting Phish quickly sold out dates across a number of cities, including Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and New York, though the crush of fans crippled the infrastructure at LiveNation.com.
The site generated numerous error messages and seemed to botch checkout functions, according to various Twitter posts, the blogosphere, and message boards. "It's a real piece of crap checkout system," one twittered. "It took me an hour to order," another complained.
The problems occurred under considerable pressure, though the hiccups highlight the learning curve that Live Nation faces in the ticketing realm. The episode is probably lending a moment of shadenfreude to Ticketmaster, a partner recently ditched by Live Nation in favor of a homegrown solution.
