OK Go's State Farm-sponsored video has quickly passed three million views, and embedding is totally enabled. The strong tally, for the recorded version of "This Too Shall Pass," is great news for the band, State Farm, and label EMI. But this is just an early mark; the video was first posted on March 1st and is just gaining steam.
The unusual State Farm pairing first surfaced last month, and offered some relief to a tense situation. EMI had refused to allow embedding on OK Go's YouTube videos, despite a smashing, embed-powered story on the treadmill-inspired "Here It Goes Again". That video put OK Go on the map, though the embeds could not be monetized based on YouTube's structure and terms.
Enter State Farm, whose miniature truck starts an incredibly long, Rube Goldberg-style contraption. The truck triggers an unbelievably complex journey that gets better with every twist-and-turn, almost to a hilarious degree. Indeed, this is the stuff of 'viral videos,' and OK Go is great at making them (regardless of whether the experts think viral videos can be preconceived). As of early Friday morning, the video had surpassed 3.4 million views... and quickly counting.
