Facebook-based music games are still at an infant stage. But the hatching space has just drawn a fresh participant.
According to details shared with Digital Music News early this morning, the latest to join is Hip Digital Media. Hip, a provider of digital music-related backend and loyalty rewards services, is now integrating MP3 sales into the web- and Facebook-based Platinum Life. Platinum, currently in open beta, is a hip-hop themed game from Heatwave Interactive, one that taps into the lucrative virtual goods market.
This is part of a broader social networking experiment, and Hip Digital is enabling the purchase of MP3s with virtual cash. Essentially, gamers can buy and earn 'Platinum Points' that can be redeemed in the Platinum Life store for millions of major label MP3s and other virtual goods.
All of that happens within the game, without the need for a separate client launch. "Our technology will allow Heatwave to fully integrate music sales and promotions into their social media application," Baris Karadogan, Hip Digital CEO told Digital Music News. "The Platinum Life experience shows clearly that content sales will be integrated into our online experiences."
