Stones Could Retain Control Over Classic Recordings

The Rolling Stones are considering their post-EMI options, but would they retain control over their classic recordings?  According to a recent New York Post article, the answer is yes.  Citing "multiple sources close to the situation," the paper asserted that the Stones could leave the major with their precious recordings in tow.

The deal is slated to end this year, and the gems in question include albums Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, and Some Girls.  Industry insiders have learned to cast a suspicious eye on Post articles, though the megastars may have structured favorable contract terms.

Looking forward, the Rolling Stones could become the next mega-superstars to break the major label mold, and potentially forge a massively-lucrative, 360-degree deal.  In January, the group announced plans to release the live performance soundtrack to Shine A Light, directed by Martin Scorcese.  The disc is being carried by Universal Music Group, despite an ongoing EMI contract.
