Portable Music Downloads... On Your BlackBerry?

The BlackBerry is an ubiquitous weapon for business warriors, though parent company Research in Motion (RIM) is now broadening the profile.  At South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin this week, Toronto-based Puretracks unveiled a mobile download partnership with the portable heavyweight.  At the event, Puretracks has been tossing promotional download cards that contain codes for free over-the-air downloads.

The Puretracks Mobile for BlackBerry splash, which also involves Magnet Mobile Media, will initially launch on the Pearl 8100, Curve 8300, and 8800 series handsets.  The first stab will be in North America, and an official release is happening April 1st at the mobile-focused CTIA in Las Vegas.  Puretracks is flexing catalog from all four major labels, as well as a broad range of independents.

The news closely follows an announcement involving BlackBerry and will.i.am-powered Barack Obama support site Dipdive.  BlackBerry will position the destination onto its devices.
