#SXSW: Let the Music App Rush Begin...

South-by-Southwest used to be all about the bands.  Now, the onslaught of music and BBQ is complemented by film and technology. And what better place to discover a music app?  In that spirit, at SXSW Interactive (SXSWi) a number of apps are getting showcased, discussed, or enhanced.

The first comes from MOG, whose David Hyman previewed Android and iPhone apps this morning.  The MOG apps go live next quarter.  Then, Spotify chief Daniel Ek is offering a keynote on Tuesday, part of a continued push into the US.

Who else?  Rhapsody is now upgrading its app to include offline, cached access to collections (on par with MOG and Spotify).  "Since launching Rhapsody for the iPhone, the number one feature request is for the ability to listen to Rhapsody music when the wireless signal is unavailable or spotty," Rhapsody executive Ryan Luckin told Digital Music News in Austin.  Apple is now reviewing the update, and an Android expansion is soon entering open beta.

Elsewhere, Slacker - now an app-based model - is tying with Hello Music at SXSW.  Hello is enabling unsigned artists to upload their content into the Slacker system, and generate customized radio stations in the process.

More?  Like most things SXSW, there are too many to name.  Apps are everywhere, though a few are designed to help navigate the sea of bands, panels, and parties.  That includes official apps SXSW Play and my.SXSW, as well as a recommendation-focused solution from the Echo Nest and Sched*.
