Village-bred Suzanne Vega is now creating a different soft of village around her latest and upcoming releases. The singer-songwriter started her resurgence with direct-to-fan platform Nimbit, and the artist has subsequently tapped Razor & Tie to handle a range of physical and digital distribution aspects.
Some overlap appears to exist at this stage between Nimbit and Razor & Tie, though hopefully everything stays friendly. Either way, Vega is now releasing a series of acoustic reworkings under the umbrella title of Suzanne Vega Close-Up, of which Vol. 1 is already released. Barnes & Noble, yet another partner, secured an exclusive on the physical and digital album for three months.
Actually, Vega is controlling the action through her Amanuensis Productions. In that structure, Razor & Tie is being layered as a distribution partner, another post-label decision for Vega. "We chose Razor & Tie because they are a smart company," Vega said, quite simply. After the three-month Barnes exclusive, Vol. 1 hits a broader retail spread.
Back at SXSW, Suzanne Vega performed a showcase with Sofia Talvik at St. David's Historic Sanctuary.
