iLike, Tapulous Marketing Alliance Begins...

Tapulous is now joining forces with iLike to promote the Coldplay-branded Tap Tap app.  Tap Tap Revenge: Coldplay Edition is just one offshoot of the top-ranked iPhone game.  The alliance has not been formally announced, though iLike is already promoting the Coldplay Edition on its pages and to fans.  "We're giving the 2.9 million Coldplay fans on iLike something to tap about," said iLike president Ali Partovi.

The question now is whether iLike can create a sales blowout for Tapulous and Coldplay.  The iLike team has been bloviating a bit recently, and taking a lot of the credit for a number of recent chart-toppers.  "Every single album we've promoted in the past year, whether by iconic stars or emerging artists, has debuted in the iTunes top 10 albums, and most of them in the top 3," Partovi recently blogged. 

The exact impact of iLike on those releases is difficult to pick apart, and iLike is probably overstating its influence.  But a marketing association with iLike is definitely not hurting artists - to the contrary, iLike has connections with die-hard fans, all of whom are interested in knowing about new releases, tour dates, and other band-related updates.
