Above-board, legitimate licensing is often an arduous process, one that frequently leaves companies at a disadvantage to less-legal competitors. In the ad-supported realm, one company trudging through the paperwork is We7, a company backed by Peter Gabriel.
On Monday, the company announced licensing deals with digital distributors Iris, INgrooves, and BFM Digital. Collectively, the deals involve about 200,000 songs.
That follows an earlier deal involving Sony BMG, the first major label to license the company. But that deal is limited to streams, and only pertains to the United Kingdom.
Earlier licensing grabs include V2, sealed in June of last year. The total We7 catalog now totals roughly 750,000 tracks, according to the company.
