Ultra-popular games never stand still.  Instead, they spawn sequels, inspire imitators, and seep into popular culture.  And that is exactly the trajectory being enjoyed by Guitar Hero, a game that will soon introduce more instruments.

According to information coming from Activision, Guitar Hero IV will include a broader palette of musical weaponry.  "It's not just about guitars," Activision chief executive Bobby Kotick recently told Portfolio.com.  "We'll include a lot of other instruments, vocals.  It will help us expand internationally."

Other serious enhancements are also ahead.  Activision is now merging with Vivendi Games, a move that eases access to content from Universal Music Group.  "One of the big benefits will be access to the Universal library," Kotick explained.  The upgraded version may also include content from local favorites, tied to the region of the specific gamer.
