Bias Charges Emerge In Pirate Bay Case...

Should the recent Pirate Bay case be charged a mistrial?  That is the suggestion now emerging, thanks to new information tied to the presiding judge.  The defense is demanding the retrial, based on confirmed information that judge Tomas Norstrom is a member of two pro-copyright organizations.  The organizations are the Swedish Association for Copyright and the Swedish Association for the Protection of Industrial Property.

The membership could taint Norstrom as having heavy prejudice against the Pirate Bay, a group hated by traditional content companies and pro-copyright groups.  But Norstrom claims no bias, noting that his affiliations did not interfere will ability to call the case.

The defense will aggressively pursue the charge.  The defendants, recently handed jail terms and fines, are expected to layer their retrial demand within an existing appeals filing.
