Boosey & Hawkes Plays Internet Radio Card

Who says you can't teach an old publisher new tricks?  Actually, publishers are among the most progressive in the music industry, and typically comfortable with new licensing platforms and opportunities.

In that spirit, classical publisher Boosey & Hawkes has now launched an internet radio player, one that predictably uses its own material.  The station, at booseyradio.com, allows listeners to create personalized stations based on mood, composer, or period.

The site, created by Kodime, also includes podcasts, ringtones, and mobile-based downloads.  The approach is designed to intermix classics and lesser-known gems, and increase both awareness and licensing in the process.  "This is a new way of listening to classical music," explained Boosey head of Consultancy Natasha Baldwin.  "By producing 'playlists to order,' we hope that Boosey Radio will introduce people to works they've not heard before in amongst more familiar favorites."

Earlier this month, Boosey was purchased by Imagen Music for 126 million pounds ($250 million).
