Another day, another round of cuts for a beleaguered music business. The latest pare-down involves Idolator, now a "solo project of sorts" according to editor Maura Johnston. "Because of budget cuts, we've had to say goodbye to pretty much all the Idolator contributing writers, from columnists to daily bloggers," Johnston said in a dour post.
Idolator is owned by Buzz Media, formerly Buzznet, a network of music-related blogs and sites. In early April, the company started a significant round of layoffs, one that is undoubtedly being felt across Idolator sister divisions. At that point, the company pointed to chops primarily across "product development, engineering, design, and editorial," a fairly broad sweep.
