MySpace Karaoke has now been beta released, the first step towards a cacophonous mob online. The destination is powered by kSolo, also owned by Fox Interactive Media, and can be found at ksolo.myspace.com.
The service contains several thousand chart-topping songs, though MySpace did not indicate the specific catalog number or publishers involved. MySpace Karaoke pulls songs from a number of providers, including SongDog Network, Inc., Sunfly Karaoke, and Chartbuster Karaoke.
The action resembles the neighborhood karaoke dive bar, without the stale beer odor. The karaoke format itself is now mostly standardized, and songs include lyrics, timing cues, and appropriate backing vocals. Once a microphone is obtained, users can easily sing along and record their own renditions of songs.
The versions are then added into the pool for everyone to sample, and automatically embedded into the user's profile page. The US-based launch will be followed by launches in other regions, according to MySpace.
