Trent Reznor is now offering a totally-free, no-strings-attached album, a move that will undoubtedly boost fan loyalty. The Nine Inch Nails album, called The Slip, is available for free, without DRM, and without paid options. "Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one's on me," Reznor wrote on the nin.com site.
In terms of fidelity options, fans can grab the album in a variety of formats, including MP3, various lossless versions, or 24-bit, 96 kbps WAV files. The album follows an instrumental album collection, Ghosts I-IV, which Reznor offered for a variety of price points, including free. A deluxe package, offered for $300, quickly produced revenues of $750,000. The broader initiative most likely netted several million, based on initial sales disclosures.
