Life as the top-ranked game on the iPhone App Store certainly has its perks. Tap Tap Revenge developer Tapulous is now integrating Dave Matthews Band into its beat-based iPhone game, a deal that closely follows a similar tie-up with Coldplay.
Suddenly, Tap Tap is more than a game - it represents a serious promotional point for bands. On the free version, Tap Tap offers more than 200 songs, and everyone is happy to join the tapulousness. On the not-so-free side, the DMB app is $4.99, and part of a continued stab into premium territory. Among other goodies, the app features older hits as well as songs from the upcoming album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.
So how is the whole premium thing working out for Tapulous? According to Tapulous CEO Bart Decrem, Tapulous has sold more than 250,000 paid apps, out of more than 10 million downloads. That is part of a broader model that prioritizes scale ahead of revenues - and banks on future monetization. Sound familiar?
What else? Separately, Dave Matthews Band is also streaming its upcoming performance at the Beacon Theatre on Hulu. The June 1st show comes just ahead of the album release date.
