Napster Delivers Mobile Music Videos In Japan

Napster is now delivering over-the-air music videos in Japan, a collaborative effort involving mobile operator NTT DoCoMo.  The offering, dubbed Napster Clips, is being layered into a broader, mobile music subscription offering.  The content is specifically geared towards the N906iL onefone, which rides on a 3G/FOMA network or surrounding wireless broadband.  Napster is likely to spread the offering to other devices after the initial launch.

All of that makes sense to Japanese mobile users, and the companies that compete for their yen.  Closer to the States, mobile video content delivery is mostly niche, despite aggressive stabs by carriers like Sprint and Verizon.  Meanwhile, over-the-air delivery speeds and infrastructure continue to improve in the United States, though concepts like OTA audio downloads face serious threats from free sideloading - both in North America and Europe.
