MediaNet Digital is now elbowing into the crowded direct-to-fan space, and also inviting bloggers to join the fun. On Wednesday, the company unveiled 'Media Selector,' a tool that allows artists and bloggers to embed playlists and sell content directly to fans.
That means dynamic lists, contextual streams, and MP3s to fit the content at hand. "MediaNet handles the technical, licensing and commerce aspects," commented MediaNet CEO Alan McGlade. "Artists can be creative with Media Selector to deliver additional ways to engage their fans."
This is game of APIs and embeds, not direct licensing and backend payment systems. Sounds simple, and on the blogger side, a nice replacement for those formerly tapping Lala for contextual streams. For MediaNet, it represents a bite-sized reconfiguration of its current suite of APIs. The company has been busy powering backend streams and downloads for a range of partners, including the recently-splashed Immergent.
