More Rattling on Shakira, Live Nation Mega-Deal...

Is Shakira the next artist entering a Live Nation mega-deal?  The possibility has been bubbling for some time, though the high-profile departure of executive Michael Cohl has drawn attention away from the potential signing.

Cohl was pushing for a more aggressive artist signing spree, an approach that created problems for Live Nation chief Michael Rapino.  Still, fresh deals may be cooking.  On Tuesday, the New York Post fanned the Shakira flames further by etching a broad-based deal valued at $70 million.

Shakira still owes albums on her current, Epic Records (Sony BMG) contract before she becomes a free agent.  The superstar Columbian plays to both Anglo and Latin audiences, and records and performs in both English and Spanish.  Shakira would join an elite Live Nation cast that includes Madonna and Jay-Z, both of whom carry 360-degree deals valued well past $100 million.
