  • The Walkman is now turning 30.  The revolutionary Sony device defined portable listening, and offered inspiration to Steve Jobs and the iPod.

  • Pirate Bay buyer Global Gaming Factory X is now being probed on insider trading charges, according to Torrentfreak.  Swedish regulatory authorities are reportedly examining abnormal trading volumes prior to the Pirate Bay announcement.
  • Michael Jackson sold an astounding 2.6 million digital songs last week, easily a one-week record.  MJ tracks are currently clogging the top rankings.  The figure comes from Nielsen Soundscan.
  • Most music-related stocks edged upward on Wall Street on Wednesday, with the exception of the Orchard (ORCD) and a handful of radio stocks.  The Orchard (ORCD) slipped 12.5 percent to $1.75.  
  • The Echo Nest officially unveiled their Fanalytics semantic analysis program on Wednesday.  The concept was first tipped to Digital Music News last week.
  • Black Eyed Peas scored the top-ranked album in the US this week, according to Nielsen Soundscan.  E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) shifted just 87,971 units.  The Jonas Brothers were the only others to pull above 50,000. 
  • Live Nation Global Touring kicked off its "U2 360 Tour" at Barcelona's Nou Camp Stadium on Tuesday.  The tour, presented by Blackberry, crossed into North America in September.
  • The Orchard is spreading into film.  The company just inked marketing and distribution partnerships with National Lampoon, IndiePix Films, and Independent Film Sales.
  • Talenthouse (talenthouse.com) is a newly-launched creative community that encourages collaboration between artists.  The music, fashion, art, film and photography testbed has garnered support from big names like Dallas Austin, Dan Cameron, and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
