Coldplay: Another Album Download Sales Record

Coldplay has now scored the biggest paid album download total in the United States, according to information shared Thursday by EMI Music.  The label, referencing Nielsen Soundscan figures, pointed to a three-week, US-based sales total of 394,000 on the recent release, Viva La Vida

That represents a serious chunk of the broader 1.1 million, and a reflection of a quickly-shifting ratio between digital and physical formats.  The shift is naturally the result of increasing digital sales, though serious declines in physical formats are also tilting the percentages.

Alongside the top-level digital sales tally, a number of other records are also flowing.  Upon release, Coldplay scored the best pre-order and first-week album tallies on the iTunes Store, according to information confirmed by Apple.  Additionally, the group has now scored broader chart-topping slots across 36 countries, a result that beats the earlier album, X&Y
